Suburban Aeroclub of Chicago is hosting AMA National Model Aviation Day
Saturday August 22, 2026
Inviting aviation enthusiasts, individuals interested in STEM, & the public to come try flying and watch demo flights & learn more. Trainer models w/ buddy box setups available, RC & Control line aircraft, Drones, and much more.
DRONE Demonstration by Governors State University School of Extended Learning. Additional details and schedules will follow. AMA sanctioned event.
Join the Suburban Aeroclub of Chicago and the AMA Foundation in celebrating model aviation for the twelfth annual National Model Aviation Day, August 22, 2026. National Model Aviation Day was created to encourage clubs to celebrate the hobby and share it with the public. The SAC & AMA are devoted to inspiring the young and young-at-heart to pursue a hobby that will inspire creativity and advanced learning through the use of hands-on applications.

Color Guard and Raising of the Flag - Troop 637 - Evergreen park
Training Flights all day - Fly with instructor via a Buddy Box link to help you experience flying
RealFlight RC (Radio Control) flight simulator available to Try & Fly
DRONE Demonstration by Governors State University School of Extended Learning
Acrobatic Flying / EDF flights / Control Line Aircraft Demonstrations
Scale and Turbine aircraft demos planned
"Whoop" Drone demo
Open flying most all of the day
FLYERS MUST HAVE SPOTTERS - NO Cost to Pilots
FRIA site, 300' x 50' paved runway, 700' ceiling
Pop-Up Canopies allowed if space permits - NEEDS TO HAVE ROPES / STAKES to secure
Food & drink available

Our regular flying site is off S Cicero Ave, Matteson, IL at the Cook County Forest Preserve Tinley Creek model airplane field.
